In this guide, we’ll walk you through a step-by-step process on how to sell Contraband with ease and without getting scanned.

Step 1: Identifying Contraband in Your Inventory Contraband items in Starfield can be found in your inventory under the “Miscellaneous” tab. They are distinguishable by a distinctive yellow icon. These items, such as harvested organs, are usually forbidden to carry into cities or planetary systems without specialized equipment.

Step 2: Finding the Right Marketplace and Navigating to the Den Fortunately, there’s a place where you can offload your Contraband without the need for special gear or risking detection. These items can be quite valuable, so it’s a profitable venture if done correctly. To start, open your star map and locate the solar system containing the main city, New Atlantis (Alpha Centauri). Just to the top right of New Atlantis, you’ll find another solar system called “Wolf.” This is your destination.

Step 3: Docking at “The Den” Within the Wolf solar system, you’ll discover two planets. Your target is “The Den,” which you can identify by selecting it and confirming your choice. Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate your spaceship’s travel to The Den.

Step 4: Docking Procedure Upon reaching The Den, you’ll need to dock at one of the stations. Approach the station and activate the docking procedure. This typically involves getting close and hitting your “Interact” key (usually labeled as “R” on a keyboard, and the specific button on a controller will be indicated).

Step 5: Accessing the Trade Authority Once docked, make your way inside the station. A short walk will lead you to the Trade Authority, where you can engage in Contraband transactions. Interact with the Trade Authority by pressing the indicated button (usually “X” on a keyboard or the respective controller button).

Step 6: Selling Your Contraband Inside the Trade Authority’s menu, navigate to the “Miscellaneous” tab, where you’ll find your Contraband items, such as harvested organs and sentient AI adapters. Select these items for sale, and watch as your wealth increases significantly.

Step 7: Making the Most of Your Visit Keep in mind that the Mantis ship and armor are associated with a reputation system that can affect your interactions with NPCs. Friendly ships may reward you, while certain pirates may choose to flee upon encountering you. NPCs across the Starfield universe will respond differently to your presence based on this reputation.

Bonus Tip: Resetting the Shop If the Trade Authority runs out of funds, you can easily reset the shop by using a nearby chair. Sit in the chair and select the “Wait” option (usually “B” on a keyboard) to pass 24 local hours. This will refresh the Trade Authority’s available funds, allowing you to continue your Contraband trade.
