Specialized critics are tearing apart Avatar: The Last Airbender, Netflix’s new live-action adaptation. The series premiered with only a 60% score on Rotten Tomatoes, leaving audiences quite intrigued. Understand why the work has been considered a disappointment.

According to Kambole Campbell (Empire Magazine), the series brings a “uninspiring” approach, earning only 2 out of 5 stars. For her, the casting choices failed to save Netflix’s production from a confusing execution.

Angie Han (The Hollywood Reporter) shared a similar opinion and suggested that the animated version should have been left alone.

The expert was not satisfied with the adaptation, which fails to revitalize a familiar world.

This sentiment also appears in Rollin Bishop’s (Total Film) critique, who complained about the result he called mediocre and unsettling.

The most severe reaction came from Rafael Motamayor (Discussing Film), who described the new series as a constant reminder of the success of the Nickelodeon animation.

He even compares the new adaptation to the cinematic failure released by M. Night Shyamalan in 2010.
